Checkbox Questions

Checkbox questions can be a really useful way of adding a multi-select question to your survey. This article will cover the different ways you can use a Checkbox question.

Adding a Checkbox question

  1. From the Edit/Add Survey Questions screen click Add a question.
  2. Once the new question has been added, select the question type dropdown, and select Checkboxes. This will change your question to a Checkbox question type.
  3. Type your question in the Add a Question title.
  4. You can choose to add a question description if required.
  5. Select the red Add/Edit options This will bring up a text box.
  6. Type each of your answers in the text box, and be sure to type each answer on its own separate line. Once you are happy select Save Options.
  7. This will have added each of your options as its own separate answer for participants to select from.

Adding an ‘Other’ selection

  1. You can also give respondents the ability to select an ‘Other’ option, if their answer isn’t included in the list. Which will allow them to free type their answer.
  2. Select the Add ‘Other’ option.
  3. Add additional ‘Other’ question text if required, and select if you would like to give respondents a short or long text answer.

Make your question Mandatory

  1. Select the Required tick box if you want to make this question mandatory.

Add a validation to your checkbox question

Depending on the checkbox question being added, you may want to set a validation for the number of answers a participant can select.

  1. Click the Validate checkbox which will bring up additional options.
  2. Select which type of validation you would like to apply to your question.
  • Select at least – This will ensure recipients select a minimum number of answers
  • Select at most – This will cap the number of answers a recipient can select
  • Select at least – You can use this if you need all recipients to select the same number of answers.
  1. Enter the number for your chosen validation.
  2. Enter some text that will appear if a recipient makes a selection outside of your validation.

Once you have created your checkbox question, you can select Save and Preview to see how it looks in the survey.
