Tractivity Migration to Azure

Last updated 28/11/2024

Why is Tractivity being moved from our current hosting provider to Azure?

We are migrating Tractivity to Azure to leverage its robust infrastructure, enhanced security features, and extensive support for compliance and regulatory standards. Azure offers superior scalability, performance, and reliability compared to our current provider.

What are the main benefits of moving Tractivity to Azure?

The benefits include:

  • Improved Security: Azure provides advanced security features, including threat detection, encryption, and compliance with international and industry-specific standards.
  • Scalability: Azure's scalable infrastructure allows us to easily adjust resources to meet the changing needs of our organisation without significant downtime or manual intervention.
  • Reliability: We have had several problems with our existing hosting provider and migrating to Microsoft Azure will resolve these issues.
  • Innovation: Azure's extensive suite of tools and services supports continuous innovation and the possible integration of cutting-edge technologies such as Artificial Intelligence.
  • Performance: We expect the Tractivity solution to run significantly faster on the Azure platform versus the existing one.

Will our data remain in the UK after migrating to Azure?

Yes, your Tractivity data will reside in Azure's UK South data centre.

Will there be any disruption to operations during the migration?

Our migration plan is designed to minimise disruption. Key steps include thorough planning, testing and implementation to ensure a smooth transition.

We may require some clients to update configurations that our outside of our control, for example DNS records that are owned by the client that we cannot administer directly, if so, we will contact you accordingly.

There may be brief periods of downtime, but these will be communicated well in advance.

We are highly regulated, is hosting on Microsoft Azure safe and compliant?

Azure complies with various global and industry-specific standards, ensuring that data management practices meet rigorous security requirements.

For more information, please visit the Microsoft Trust Centre where you can view the standards and certifications that Microsoft Azure comply with.

How will you ensure that the Azure platform (and client data) is secure?

As part of the migration process, we are ensuring that all aspects of security are ‘baked-in’ to the process, for example, we are undertaking multiple vulnerability scans (both internal and external) and we will also be enacting penetration testing to ensure that the environment is secure.

In regards to client data, encryption is heavily utilised, databases utilise Transparent Data Encryption, server hard disks are encrypted and data in transit ie when you log in to the Tractivity platform, will still be protected by TLS 1.2 at minimum.

What support will be provided during the migration to Azure?

We will offer comprehensive support, please reach out to your Tractivity Account Manager with any specific questions. We will also send several communications in relation to this migration to keep you informed. We will also assist you if necessary in making configuration changes which may be required to facilitate this migration e.g. DNS records.

How will Azure improve our disaster recovery capabilities?

Azure enhances our disaster recovery strategy through:

  • Automated Backups: Regular, automated backups to protect against data loss.
  • Quick Recovery: Azure’s tools and services enable rapid recovery from any disruptions, ensuring business continuity.
